Write With Community Workshops
Write With Community place-based workshops are designed to encourage writers to expand their geographic circle of community while building diverse creative networks
Writing workshops help creative voices speak. Meeting in person to do meaningful work offers the chance to share, grow, and feel energized.
Write With Community offers four core workshop formats across the South Coast, each designed to connect writers to place, to one another, and to the broader literary community:
Experiential Writing Workshops — In-person, multi-hour sessions centered on a creative practice (prompts, themed exploration, group response). Best for writers who want guided generative time in community.
Place-Based Exploration Workshops — Workshops hosted in South Coast venues — museums, libraries, breweries, public spaces — that use the place itself as creative material.
Building Geographic Diversity Workshops — Cross-community gatherings designed to connect writers across South Coast towns (Westport, New Bedford, Mattapoisett, Fall River, Providence) and reduce geographic isolation.
WWC Programs & Community Events — Recurring drop-in formats including the virtual Writing at Night sessions, grant-writing workshops, poetry events at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, and Walking Book Clubs.
Write With Community promotes strong bonds for the attendees, facilitating the connections, networks, and safe spaces that help writers to thrive. There is documented evidence that writing in community strengthens the social fabric.
