AI Could Never Sell Its Soul

AI could never sell its soul. Of course it does not have a soul to sell, but if it did, it probably wouldn’t be stupid enough to sell something so valuable. But man… alas… that is a different story.

The soul is a hard thing to define, and I won’t even pretend to do so here. We can read what Webster’s or Google has to say about it. The soul even has its own lengthy Wikipedia entry titled “soul.” If you chose, you could spend a lifetime researching its origins as some of the world’s great thinkers have, and still come up with more questions than answers. One cannot point out the soul’s specific location in the body, and yet we know it is there.

Perhaps its source lies buried deep inside our cells or maybe this spirit of oneself exists somewhere outside the sphere of the body. It seems that the best understanding of it comes from within – perhaps from the very soul itself…

Maybe someday the secret of the soul will be unlocked, and that will be a great feat for humans.  We know it is more astounding than any computer program ever invented. Every human on planet Earth is attached to its free source of energy. It operates around the clock, day in and day out, and appears to have done so since the beginning of time. It manages all this without huge data centers pilfering the land, polluting the water, and sending animals and wildlife scurrying for their lives. Yes, what a marvelous and thoughtful invention that soul is.

We can only scratch the surface of what the soul is, but one thing we do know is that it is very sacred. It is not something that we would want human engineers tinkering with.

As an intangible gift given freely to all of humanity by our creator, it still finds a way to be unique to each individual. It quietly operates in the complexity of our cells and is so well-crafted that we can go all day or all week or even a lifetime without even thinking about it.

We don’t understand the soul, but we know that it stands for what is good and right. The survival of life here on earth and the universe beyond depends upon this. It is an unspeakable and gracious gift not meant to be squandered; yet, there are so many among us who are willing to barter with the devil. We wonder, who in their right mind would sacrifice their connection to the source of their very being for the allure of power and fame? It must be a very golden and shiny wand that old Beelzebub is waving to have so many willingly walk down that path and sell their most precious belonging. It would take a soulless creature to be able to exchange the riches of the earth that belong to the many generations for one fleeting day in the sun. So: here we are at this time and place.

The days of summer are winding down. The garden droops miserably in anticipation of the next rainfall.

The mimosa hangs heavy with its sweet scent in the heat of the afternoon while hummingbirds frantically circle it looking for the last vestiges of sweet nectar before the blooms fall to the ground.

Nature tells us that everything has its season in the sun.  We understand that in our soul.  It would be hard to reconcile the idea that someone who appreciates nature could ever sell their soul. Yes, the Earth needs more gardeners.
